Turkish banks Isbank, DenizBank confirm suspension of Mir cards use
ANTAKYA, Turkey, Sep 19 (PRIME) -- Turkish banks Isbank and DenizBank have confirmed suspension of Russian payment system Mir service following U.S. and U.K. sanctions against Moscow, the bank’s representatives told PRIME on Monday.
“On September 16 it was decided to stop servicing Mir cards,” Ishbank's representative said.
“Transactions on the card Mir and related to the Russian currency in our bank are not carried out, the cards are not accepted by ATMs,” DenizBank’s representative said.
Earlier on Monday, Reuters reported that Isbank suspended Mir payment system service due to U.S. sanctions targeting people and entities accused of helping Russia skirt financial sanctions.
On September 15, the U.S. sanctioned Vladimir Komlev, CEO of Russia’s National Payment Card System (NPCS), which runs Mir.
